When the Green Fire Islands Production looked for a photographer to document the making of their ambigious Maori-Irish music collaboration they reached out to our iconic Marti Friedlander.
I vivividly remember the urgency in Marti's voice when she called: 'KATHRIN, pack your bags, I have the most incredible assignment for you. You HAVE to do this!!' Bless you Marti...that's how I became the lucky photographer who, alongside legend Alun Bollinger and his film crew, witnessed and documented extremely gifted and respected artists that created the moving story of
GREEN FIRE ISLANDS.
From the rehearsals in the artistic beach community of Raglan in NZ, the show travelled to perform at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington, WOMAD in New Plymouth and the Aotea Centre in Auckland. Four years later, it re-united in Ireland for rehearsals at the The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig to then present the show at The Helix in Dublin and the London River of Music Festival as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2012. It has been an absolute honor to have been part of this production and to meet everyone. For more info and to watch the trailer, go to http://www.greenfireislands.com/
