Te Waka Huia gearing up for the Tamaki Makarau Regionals..

Just spent time with my friends from Te Waka Huia at one of their wanangas. I hadn’t seen them since the Book launch of ‘Ka Mau Te Wehi’ one year ago and it was wonderful to see and hear them all again in action. Missed them! Currently they are gearing up for the TĀMAKI MAKARAU REGIONAL WHAKATAETAE on 5th April 2014 to defend their title and they are working extremely hard. Loved being there and can’t wait to join another wananga on one of the coming weekends to see their absolutely magnificent and moving performance and to be there on the 5th!

Seeing everyone, reminded me of our journey together…

Ka Mau Te Wehi – Taking Haka To The World – Bub and Nen’s Story by Bradford Haami

Hi there!! Remember my exhibitions about NZ premier Kapa Haka team Te Waka Huia!? Over the last 1.5 years writer and historian Bradford Haami wrote a book about it’s iconic and most beautiful leader Ngapo (Bub) and Pimia (Nen) Wehi. Many of my photographs are part of the book and I am just thrilled. An exhibition is so very temporary and can reach only a few whereas a book is very tangible and reaches out. Having been able to contribute to Bub Wehi’s autobiography is such an honor. The book launch is on 27 January and open to the public…See you there for an evening of celebrations and Kapa Haka!!
