In loving memory of ‘Bub’ Ngapo Wehi

I was out of the country and only yesterday learned from a dear Te Waka Huia friend that kapa haka legend Dr Ngapo Wehi passed away on 31 July 16. My heart goes out to his whanau and all that loved and adored Bub for who he was – a beautiful, humble and inspiring man. I am filled with sadness for losing him but am also feeling utterly blessed to have met him – his generous wairua always present, his watching eyes always open and knowing. Without him saying anything, I felt his caring wings over me, welcoming my presence on my many visits onto the marae with Te Waka Huia. As a photographer, I am naturally observant and seeing his passionate dedication and love for his whanau, his wife Pimia, his ropu, his culture and his art touched my heart deeply. Watching the genuine love and respect he received from everyone around him was just remarkable and very moving.  He was such a beautiful man. Thank you Koro. Thank you. Thank you.

All my love. RIP.
